Step-By-Step, Rules, Prizes &  Instructions

"A series is a collection of paintings that when viewed leaves no doubt the same artist created them all.
The theme running through the work is stated and restated in different yet interconnected ways and the viewer
can
look at the collection and understand more easily what the artist is trying to convey."

~ Lynette Ubel

Diane Emerson is our judge for this event!
She's the exhibit coordinator and co-curator at the Medford Arts Center,
in Medford, NJ. Diane is an awesome artist and a sophisticated judge
with decades of professional art experience.

Bonnie Jacobs ~ First Place
Judges Comments:   1st  • Bonnie Jacobs  •   I believe your two entries are both First Place.
It's hard to choose between the two mediums Your work is well done and impactful.
I'm drawn to the bud images and the flower center close-up.

Bonnie's Comments:
Ohhhhhhh wow!!!!! This is so exciting!!! Thank you.
There were so many amazing entries, I'm so honoured these were selected.
Thank you!!! Happily excited.

Jeanne Brail ~ Second Place
Judges Comments:  2nd  • Jeanne Brail  •  Wonderful handling of the medium and very creative
compositions. Something new in every image. The lady bug on the bud image is lovely.

Jeanne's Comments:
THANKS !!  So delighted to hear the good news. A bright spot in this year.  Without your encouragement
and inspiration, I could not have done this.  I worked really hard on being creative because you told me I could be.
Thank you again for this opportunity.

Entry from Jill Milan ~ Third Place
Judges Comments:  3rd •  Jill Milan •  Great attention to the shape and the design
of the poppy. Lovely diversity in your backgrounds too.

Jill's Comments:  I’m so thrilled with all my classes, your are a great teacher. I’ve learned so much and can’t
wait to get back to learning more after the holidays.  I have lots of started works, which I want to finish.
I’m pleased with my poppy series, and you have helped me really improve my art.

Cathy Joerger ~ Honorable Mention
Judges Comments:  Honorable Mention - Kathy Joerger   Your soft muted colors make your
work stand out. I also like the spattering you added to a few of the images.

Cathy's Comments:  Oh how fun!!!!  I know I paint in a completely different style than you described in the "step by step",
so I am really happy to be selected.  Thank you for including the judge's comments. I learned so much on several levels
by doing all these little paintings. I love the process of working on Yupo and in confining myself to this miniature size.
I just went with how I see poppies . . . . and had a really great time!!
Thank you so much for this opportunity!

Closing Thoughts From our Judge, Diane Emerson
What a lovely group of paintings.  I love poppies and look forward to every May when they arrive on this earth.
Their crepe paper petals bring joy and happiness. Great job everyone!!

"After the commitment to begin a series is made, it begins to take on a life of its own. With each additional painting in a series, the original thought grows into something more refined and bigger than a singular painting could ever be. Every addition allows the artist’s voice to get louder and clearer, demonstrating that they are on a path, know what they’re doing, where they’re going, and what they have to do to get there."
